ART THAT EMPOWERS

How one artist turned healing into a movement.

Khadijah, the visionary behind Designs By Dij, is a multi-talented creative whose passion for art, culture, and community breathes life into every piece she creates. A true artist in every sense—vocalist, poet, and designer—she found her calling in visual art after a vocal injury sidelined her music. What emerged was a powerful mission: to uplift and celebrate Black hair, women, and culture through meaningful, handcrafted designs.

Her art isn’t just beautiful—it’s bold, purposeful, and rooted in representation. From umbrellas to prints, each piece speaks to natural hair liberation and the pride of self-love. Her work has been spotlighted by BuzzFeed, Black Girl Nerds, and Jennifer Maker, and is now stocked in stores across Atlanta, Detroit, Jersey City, and Los Angeles’ Crenshaw Mall.

Beyond products, Khadijah built a movement. In 2022, she founded the Curls N’ Convo Natural Hair Summit, a groundbreaking event celebrating the natural hair community. With support from icons like Felicia Leatherwood and Tabitha Brown, the summit fosters empowerment and education through panels, workshops, and authentic connection.

Despite accolades—including being named one of the Top 50 Black Women in Business in Mississippi and her induction into the Best of Mississippi Hall of Fame—Khadijah’s journey hasn’t been without challenge. Imposter syndrome once crept in, but she overcame it by shifting her mindset. “Mindset is everything,” she says. “You just need faith the size of a mustard seed. ”Designs By Dij is more than a brand—it’s a testament to the power of creativity, confidence, and culture. Through her story, Khadijah encourages others to dream boldly, take the leap, and fly.
