Kyndll Candle Co.
KENNEDY, The scent of a burning candle is far more than a signature fragrance. For Kenya Kennedy, it serves as a reminder of endless possibilities when one steps out of their comfort zone and into the full confidence of their potential. After years on end of playing it safe in the corporate machine, Kenya built Kyndll Candle Co., a luxury candle brand that emphasizes self-care, and stories told through scent.
Kennedy’s inspiration for establishing Kyndll Candle Co. is one to remember.
“My 4-year-old, Kyndall, is my business namesake,” she says. “In 2021, during the snowstorm that made headlines across the country, she was born 15 weeks premature and weighed only 1lb and 10 oz. Watching such a tiny being fight with strength I’ve never seen before inspired me to start this company and strive to give my daughter the best future I possibly can.”
Kennedy’s ultimate mission became to show her young daughters that they are capable of anything, and chose to showcase that through elevating the experience of scent. Her products are more than wax and fragrance; they cultivate a vibe that encourages self-love on all levels. In fact, one of Kyndll Candle Co.’s key achievements, even in its earlier stages, is the development of a strong product line and unique candle party experience designed for connection!
The path to entrepreneurship was not without its challenges. Kennedy admits that one of her biggest obstacles involved pushing past the initial self-doubt that so often plagues innovative, creatively-focused people. This is especially the case when starting a business in an already-saturated market. “It took time to believe in the value of my brand and trust that there was space for what I had to offer. I’ve also invested heavily in product development to ensure every candle meets a high standard of quality, from scent throw to design.” Through learning how to effectively market, Kennedy continues to grow and expand. And each challenge has made her a more confident, intentional entrepreneur. Part of this also means staying rooted in community efforts through product giveaways and face-to-face interactions.
Kenya Kennedy's story is a powerful message for anyone, especially Black women and femme-presenting people, who still operate from fear or uncertainty while desiring to lean into their creative endeavors. Let this serve as a testimony of faith, hard work, and betting on yourself!
