Writing,Truth, Healing Souls

When Olivia Matthews writes, it isn’t just ink on paper, it’s a reclamation. Brooklyn-born, with South American and Caribbean roots, Matthews has built a creative world where art, identity and purpose intertwine. Known as MsMatthewsss, she’s more than a writer; she’s a visionary who fuses finance, poetry and storytelling into a movement for healing and empowerment.

“I create to preserve truths often left unheard, to inspire healing through self-expression and to remind others, especially women and creatives of color, that their voices carry historical extension, power and purpose,” she shares.

From Finance to Fiction

With over 17 years in finance, Matthews mastered numbers long before she began channeling her energy into words. But as her creative path flourished, she saw that the two weren’t separate worlds. Her dual expertise – financial strategy and narrative storytelling – offers a unique lesson for others: passion and purpose can coexist

Today, her platform, MsMatthewsssWrites, amplifies underrepresented voices through poetry, prose and cultural preservation. She’s currently completing her debut sapphic historical fiction novel, weaving themes of immigration, identity and love across decades. Alongside that, she’s developing an animated poetry series that promises to bring her written words into living, breathing form.

Her message is simple yet powerful:

“Your story doesn’t need perfection to be powerful; it just needs your voice to rise and be sound.”

Rooted in Resilience

Matthews’ journey hasn’t been without challenges. She’s navigated grief, trauma, chronic pain and career transitions, all while holding space for loved ones and her community. “There were moments I questioned if my voice mattered, but I kept writing, kept healing and kept believing,” she reflects. Every setback became not a stopping point but a seed – transforming hardship into art that resonates.

Her work is deeply influenced by ancestral resilience and cultural identity. Through poetry, motivational content and storytelling, she creates safe spaces where people, especially women and creatives of color, feel seen, heard and empowered to rise.

Expanding the Legacy

Currently studying at Parsons School of Design with the support of a 75% creative grant, Matthews sees her artistry as legacy work.

“Healing, creativity and authenticity are still revolutionary acts; especially for women and creatives of color,” she says.
