Writing Life with Emma Jane

Finding Creativity in Chaos

Who says you have to be categorized into one thing? Not Emma Villafano. This multi-hyphenate woman wears multiple hats as a medical assistant, mother, wife, and writer. Her passion for writing isn't just what she does, "it's who I am."

On her blog, Writing Life with Emma Jane, she's very transparent about parenting, the real-life juggle of writing, parenting, and working full-time, which is a breath of fresh air in today's hypercurated online world. If you're a writer struggling to balance everything in your life and need some helpful tips to make the writing process easier for yourself, into fantasy romance and short stories, looking for community or just be reminded that it's okay to not be okay, Emma is your girl.

For all the book lovers, her current read is The Dark Lords Guide To Dating (And Other War Crimes) by Tiffany Hunt.

The best writing advice she ever got is,

“You don’t have to write perfect words. You just have to write.”

Writing is such an intimate fabric of who she is that she can confidently say, "My words don’t just build worlds, they reveal the depth of my own." This speaks to how seriously she takes her writing craft, and it shows in the way she shows up in her work.

Emma believes "that even in life’s busiest seasons, there’s always room to chase your passion one word at a time." So write even if it's imperfect, even if it doesn't make sense, because your words have meaning and need to be shared with someone who needs them.

Finding the time to write can be difficult, especially if you have a lot of responsibilities like she does. How does she do it? "I find time to write anywhere at any time I can. When the kids go outside to play, I utilize the brief quietness and write, or after the kids go to bed, is my golden hour," she says. Work with what you have and be kind to yourself because no two days are the same.
