A Sacred Space for Black Mothers to Heal, Rest, and Reclaim Their Joy
“Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them for a lifetime.”
As the founder of Black Muva Convos, I didn’t start out with a grand vision of building a movement—I simply needed a space to breathe. I was navigating the storm of NICU motherhood, postpartum depression, and a painful divorce. In my search for healing, I realized just how few spaces existed for Black mothers to be held, heard, and honored outside of the “strong Black woman” narrative. So I created what I couldn’t find: a safe space rooted in softness, healing, and joy.
Now, watching other Black mothers begin their healing journeys through Black Muva Convos is both humbling and deeply affirming. It’s the reason this work exists—to disrupt the belief that we must carry everything alone. Every time I witness a mother choose herself, laugh out loud, or simply exhale without guilt, I’m reminded that this isn’t just a platform. It’s sacred work.
Black Muva Convos
is a homecoming. A place where Black mothers can take off the weight, release the pressure, and pick themselves back up with love, community, and support. We don’t just talk about healing—we create real opportunities for it through intentional events, storytelling, and daily moments of encouragement. Our mission is to help Black mothers not just survive, but thrive.
My personal journey continues to shape the soul of this movement. What began as my own act of survival has evolved into a lifeline for other women. I needed a place that reminded me I mattered too, and now, Black Muva Convos serves as a reminder to others that healing isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. Every time a mother tells me she finally feels safe to cry, rest, or be seen, I know we’re doing something revolutionary. When we heal out loud, we give others permission to do the same.
The “strong Black woman” narrative has taught us to suffer in silence, to prove our worth through pain and endurance. But we are not machines—we are human. Breaking free from that narrative means unlearning generations of emotional suppression. It means embracing our right to be soft, to rest, to ask for help without shame. Liberation lives in softness. And when we choose that path, we model a healthier, more joyful blueprint for our children.
Looking ahead, I envision Black Muva Convos expanding into something even greater. More healing-centered events. More partnerships with like-minded organizations. And ultimately, creating permanent physical spaces where Black mothers can show up and be poured into whenever they need—no permission, no guilt, just community and care.
Our impact is growing, but our mission remains clear: to make healing accessible, joyful, and culturally rooted. We are creating a world where Black mothers are not just seen as strong, but as whole. Where they’re reminded that their joy, rest, and peace are not luxuries—they are birthrights.
This is just the beginning. Black Muva Convos will continue to show up—in real, tangible ways—to help Black mothers reclaim their light and remember that they were never meant to do this alone.
